2,3-Dimethyl-4-pyridine N-oxide is a reagent that can be used as an oxidant. It reacts with sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide to produce nitrate and peracetic acid. This compound has been shown to react with ammonia in the presence of a catalyst to produce nitric oxide, which is useful for environmental pollution control. 2,3-Dimethyl-4-pyridine N-oxide is yellow in color, but turns red when heated or mixed with other compounds.
