Description:3,4-Dimethylbenzylamine hydrochloride is an efficient primary alkylating agent that reacts with amines to form N,N'-bis(3,4-dimethylbenzyl)urea. This reaction can be carried out in a solvent such as ethanol or dichloromethane using one of the many amines and isocyanides listed below. This reagent is used for the synthesis of 3-aminopyridine from malononitrile and ethanol. It also has been used for the synthesis of 2-pyridinamine from 1-aminoethane and isocyanides.
