1,4-Diphenyl-2-butyne-1,4-dione is a reactive compound that reacts with nucleophiles (such as hydroxide) to form an oxime. It is a chiral compound that has been shown to react with amines and hydrogen chloride in the presence of UV light. The UV absorption spectrum of 1,4-diphenyl-2-butyne-1,4-dione has been measured at wavelengths from 190 nm to 400 nm. The x-ray diffraction data showed the molecular structure of the molecule and revealed a very short bond length between the carbonyl group and hydrogen chloride.
