2,6-Di-tert-butylpyridine is a proton donor that can be used in cationic polymerization. It is also used as a reagent to generate chloride and yield acidic products. 2,6-Di-tert-butylpyridine has been shown to react with pyridinium ions, forming pyridinium salts. The chemical structure of 2,6-di-tert-butylpyridine consists of a molecule with two phenyl groups and one tertiary butyl group. It is an aromatic compound that has been shown to have an expansion coefficient of 0.0183℃−1 when heated from 25°C to 100°C.
