Dimethyl Diselenide is an organic chemical compound that belongs to the group of Group P2 compounds. It is a colorless liquid with a strong odor, which is soluble in water and reacts with oxygen. Dimethyl Diselenide has been shown to be toxic to aquatic life, but not mammalian life. It is also used as an analytical tool for the detection of selenium in environmental samples due to its ability to form a stable diselenide with selenium. The reaction mechanism of this process involves oxidation of dimethyl diselenide by hydrogen peroxide or ozone, followed by addition of selenium and reduction of hydrogen peroxide or ozone. This process produces a mixture of isotopomers that are separated using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) or gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS)
