Dibenzo-15-crown 5-Ether is a crown ether with a dibenzo[b,f]thiophene backbone. It has the chemical formula CH2CH2O-C6H4-CH=C(CH3)O-C6H4-CH=C(CH3)O. Dibenzo-15-crown 5-Ether has been shown to be an ionophore, which is a molecule that transports ions across biological membranes. It can bind potassium ions and has been used in organic solvents such as dichloromethane, chloroform, and tetrahydrofuran to increase their solubility in water. Dibenzo-15-crown 5-Ether also reacts with metal ions such as potassium hydride or magnesium chloride in coordination complexes. This compound shows absorption at ultraviolet wavelengths (uv) between 230 nm and 260 nm. The infrared spectra
