Dimethoxypillar[5]arene is a supramolecular complex that can be formed by the reaction of calixarenes with Friedel-Crafts type reagents. It is a molecule that has been shown to have an acetonitrile solute constant of 10.6 M, which makes it stable in the presence of organic solvents and other materials. This compound has been used as a fluorescent probe for metal cations and as a size-exclusion chromatographic stationary phase. It also has been used to study sulfonic acid binding constants.
