N,N'-Diphenyl-N,N'-di(m-tolyl)benzidine is a quinone that has been found to have anticancer activity. It has been shown to inhibit the Angiotensin system and upregulate genes related to the water vapor and light emission reaction. The anticancer activity of this compound is due to its ability to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS), which cause DNA damage in cancer cells. This compound also exhibits antifungal properties by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a sterol required for fungal cell membranes. N,N'-Diphenyl-N,N'-di(m-tolyl)benzidine has a phase transition temperature of about -20°C and can be desorbed from zirconium oxide surfaces at room temperature by exposure to air.
