2,7-Di-tert-butylpyrene is an inorganic insulator that is used as a component of organic electronic devices. It is a hypervalent molecule and is able to form dioxin-like structures with two or three oxygen atoms. 2,7-Di-tert-butylpyrene has been shown to have protonation reactions with nitro groups and carbon tetrachloride, which are both electrophiles. This compound also reacts with triflic acid and trifluoromethanesulfonic acid, which are strong oxidizing agents. The activation energy of the reaction between 2,7-di-tert-butylpyrene and triflic acid was found to be 20.1 kcal/mol by XRD analysis.
