4,4'-Difluorobenzophenone is a nucleophile that can be synthesized by the borane-tetrahydrofuran complex reaction and the Suzuki coupling reaction. It has been shown to react with diazonium salt in a Friedel-Crafts reaction and with acylation agents. This compound is also used as a model system for studying light emission reactions. 4,4'-Difluorobenzophenone reacts with hydrogen fluoride or sodium carbonate to form diphenyl ether, which is also a light emitter. Phase liquid chromatography is an effective technique for separating compounds. This compound can be detected using UV light at wavelengths of 284 nm or 254 nm.
