Diethyl nitromalonate is a synthetic drug that is used as an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant. It has been shown to be an effective treatment for autoimmune diseases, and it has also been used in cancer therapy. Diethyl nitromalonate inhibits the synthesis of inflammatory compounds such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. The drug binds to the integrin receptor on the surface of white blood cells, interfering with the inflammatory response. Diethyl nitromalonate was first synthesized by reacting benzyl groups with hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide solution. This reaction creates a number of reactive intermediates, which are then reacted with fluorine to form diethyl nitromalonate. Diethyl nitromalonate also reacts with nitrogen atoms to form a benzene ring, which is then followed by a second reaction that produces malonic acid.
