Description:
2,4-Dichloro-6-methylphenol is an organic compound that has been used for the preparation of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), a herbicide. It is also used as a chemical intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds, such as pharmaceuticals and pesticides. The product has been shown to be mutagenic in bacteria and yeast. Reversed-phase liquid chromatography (RPLC) was used to identify the presence of 2,4-dichloro-6-methylphenol in environmental samples from Lake Ontario and its tributaries. This technique separates analytes based on their hydrophobicity.
