1,2-Dichloro-4-iodobenzene is a congener of 1,4-dichloro-2-iodobenzene. It is a nucleophilic compound that reacts with amines to form an amide. The reaction proceeds through nucleophilic attack on the carbon atom adjacent to the halide group. This type of chemical reaction is called an S N 2 substitution. The activated carbon atom adjacent to the halide group attacks the electrophilic proton of the amine and forms an intermediate that tautomerizes into the amide product. 1,2-Dichloro-4-iodobenzene has been shown to have antiplatelet activity in human liver cells and can be used as an experimental control for other similar compounds.
