Product Information

Name:
2,2-Dichloro-2-fluoroacetic acid
Synonyms:
  • Acetic acid, dichlorofluoro-
  • Dichlorofluoroacetic acid
  • Acetic acid, 2,2-dichloro-2-fluoro-
Description:

2,2-Dichloro-2-fluoroacetic acid is a trifluoroacetic acid that is used in the preparation of acyl halides. It can be synthesized by reacting hydrogen fluoride with a fatty acid or an alkyl halide. The reaction mechanism starts with the formation of a reactive intermediate, which reacts with the fluoride ion to form 2,2-dichloro-2-fluoropropane. This compound then reacts with another molecule of hydrogen fluoride to form 2,2-dichloro-2-fluoroacetic acid. The reaction products are not toxic and do not cause any adverse effects on the environment.
