Product Information
- 4,6'-Dihydroxy-2'-O-(beta-D-glucopyranosyl)dihydrochalcone
4'-Deoxyphlorizin is a naturally occurring compound that inhibits the electron transport of photosystem II. It has been found to inhibit the uptake of ammonium in plants, as well as the transport rate of potassium ions in animal cells. 4'-Deoxyphlorizin also has an inhibitory effect on photosynthetic activity, which may be due to its inhibition of proton-translocating ATPases and the phosphorylation of ADP. This compound is not toxic to plants or animals because it does not bind to DNA or RNA. 4'-Deoxyphlorizin has been shown to bind to gramicidin, a bacterial antibiotic that binds to one of two antibiotic-binding sites on chloroplast membranes. The binding site contains valinomycin, a potassium ion carrier protein that functions in the uptake process.
