Description

3,5-Dihydroxyflavone is a flavonoid that is found in the medicinal plant Oroxylum indicum. It has been shown to have receptor activity and can bind to the hydroxyl group of basic proteins. 3,5-Dihydroxyflavone has also been shown to have an effect on colony-stimulating factor and may be used as a treatment for some types of cancer. This compound is toxicologically safe and has been tested on animals. The effects are dose dependent and it does not show any mutagenic or carcinogenic properties. 3,5-Dihydroxyflavone was also shown to protect against hepatic injury induced by carbon tetrachloride in rats and mice. In cell culture studies, 3,5-dihydroxyflavone inhibits fat cell differentiation at high concentrations while promoting fat cell differentiation at low concentrations. This compound also has a protective effect against metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus
