Description:Dihydrocortisone 21-acetate is a synthetic steroid hormone that has radical mechanism of action. It is used to treat inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus erythematosus, dermatitis herpetiformis, myasthenia gravis, and Behçet's disease. This drug can be synthesized from the reaction of prednisolone with acetyl chloride. Dihydrocortisone 21-acetate is an ester of hydrocortisone or cortisone. It may also be obtained from plant sources by hydrolysis of chlorocarbonates. Dihydrocortisone 21-acetate is freely soluble in dimethylformamide (DMF) and tetrazolium salts are used as the indicator for its presence.
