3,5-Dinitro-1,2-phenylenediamine is an aromatic compound that is used as an anti-cancer drug. 3,5-Dinitro-1,2-phenylenediamine can be synthesized by the reaction of diethyl ester with nitrous acid. This product has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in culture and is cytotoxic to ovarian cancer cells. 3,5-Dinitro-1,2-phenylenediamine has also been shown to have a synergistic effect with other drugs. It inhibits the synthesis of DNA and RNA by binding to nucleic acids and blocking protein synthesis. This product is not active against bacteria or fungi but may be toxic if ingested.
