Description:5,6-Dibromoacenaphthene is a naphthalene derivative that has been used as a starting material for the synthesis of organometallic compounds. It can be synthesized by reacting butyllithium with 2-bromoacetophenone in presence of an organic acid such as ammonium salt or boronic acid. The reaction product can then be treated with allyl bromide to produce 5,6-dibromoacenaphthene. This compound has been used as a precursor for the production of diphenols and phosphines. 5,6-Dibromoacenaphthene interacts with strong bases such as alkali metals and amines.
