Product Information

Name:
3,4-Dimethylbenzoic acid methyl ester
Synonyms:
  • Benzoic acid, 3,4-dimethyl-, methyl ester
  • Methyl 3,4-dimethylbenzoate
Description:

3,4-Dimethylbenzoic acid methyl ester (DMBME) is a photophysical agent that has a strong absorption in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum. DMBME is a difluoride compound that can be introduced as a reactant to control experiments for kinetic studies. When DMBME absorbs light, it undergoes an excited state reaction to form CO2 and water. The skeleton of this molecule is highly polar and hydrophilic, which allows it to dissolve in non-polar solvents. It also has two phenyl groups that are electron rich, making this compound suitable for gelation.
