• Description: 4,4'-Diphenyl-2-butanone is a biomolecular reagent that is dehydrated to form an activated cyclic sulfide. This compound can be used in the preparation of β-unsaturated ketones and aldehydes. It is also used in the synthesis of methyl cinnamate, which can be converted to cinnamaldehyde. The condensation process of 4,4'-diphenyl-2-butanone with chloride yields trifluoromethylthiolation products such as 2,3-dichloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)benzenesulfonyl chloride. The reaction product can be used to synthesize rhenium complexes. It has been proposed that this reagent may be applied in the synthesis of rhenium complexes by reacting with chloride and then adding a ligand such as aluminium or β-unsaturated ketones.
