Description:

2',4'-Dihydroxypropiophenone is a bioactive molecule that has been shown to have fungicidal concentrations against the fungus Monilia polystroma. It is also considered to be a useful chemical in postharvest treatments of fruit. 2',4'-Dihydroxypropiophenone is used in gravimetric analysis of uptake and viscosity, and can be analyzed by NMR spectroscopy. The compound has been found to react with Cl- ions in an ion-exchange procedure in the presence of acid catalyst, such as hydrochloric acid or n-dimethyl formamide. Kinetic studies show that 2',4'-dihydroxypropiophenone is a monomer.
2',4'-Dihydroxypropiophenone is a white crystalline solid with a melting point around 125°C and molecular weight of 223.25 g/mol.
