The compound prevents the oxidation of prosthetic groups and the formation of adducts with DNA, which can lead to carcinogenesis. 3,4-Dimethoxy-5-hydroxybenzaldehyde is known to inhibit the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhimurium, Escherichia coli and Lactobacillus plantarum.
