Description

Mozavaptan is a polymeric prodrug that is converted to its active form, zolpidem, by esterases in the blood. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of ATP-sensitive potassium channels and has been used as a diagnostic agent for congestive heart failure. The drug also decreases tumor size in experimental models and suppresses tumor growth. Mozavaptan inhibits adenosine receptors on cancer cells, causing them to stop dividing. This drug also increases the glomerular filtration rate and may be used as an effective chemotherapy treatment for cervical cancer. This drug is not yet approved by the FDA.
