4,16-Dibromo[2.2]paracyclophane is an enantiopure compound that can be used as a chiral chromophore. It has been shown to have optical properties and can be used in catalysis. 4,16-Dibromo[2.2]paracyclophane can be prepared from ethylene and bromobenzene as well as from styrene and trifluoromethanesulfonic acid. This compound is also used for membrane permeabilization and the optical analysis of cells and tissues. The structure of 4,16-dibromo[2.2]paracyclophane was determined by x-ray crystallography and it has been found that this molecule is a singlet in both solution and crystal states.
