It has been shown to inhibit the reaction of chlorine with hydrochloric acid, which is a major industrial process for the production of chlorinated solvents. 1,5-Dimethylpyrazole also reacts with metal ions and can be used as a catalyst for organic reactions. The molecule can exist in two different isomers, cis-1,5-dimethylpyrazole and trans-1,5-dimethylpyrazole.
