2-(2,4-Dinitrophenylthio)benzothiazole (2,4-DNPTBZ) is a nucleophilic compound that is synthesized in the laboratory and used as a reagent. 2,4-DNPTBZ has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of cinerea (Cercospora beticola). It binds to the iron atom in the active site of cinerea and prevents the production of reactive oxygen species. This inhibits the synthesis of polyketides, which are essential for fungal growth. 2,4-DNPTBZ also has anti-fungal properties against other fungi such as Botrytis cinerea and Fusarium spp.
