Dihydromethysticin is a natural compound that acts as an agonist of the Toll-like receptor, which is a type of pattern recognition receptor. It has been shown to be effective in inhibiting cancer tissues and infectious diseases by stimulating the production of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and preventing the degradation of 5-HT. Dihydromethysticin also induces apoptosis in HL60 cells through the activation of caspase-3, an enzyme that plays a role in the initiation of apoptosis. This compound can inhibit polymerase chain reaction by interacting with other drugs. Dihydromethysticin has been found to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to suppress lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide production in macrophages.
