Disodium hexafluorotitanate is a strong oxidizer that is used in analytical chemistry. It is a white solid and has a melting point of -156°C. The reaction system with hydrogen peroxide and potassium chloride produces chlorine gas, which can be detected by fluorescence spectrometry. Disodium hexafluorotitanate reacts with hydrochloric acid to form titanium chloride and hydrogen gas, which can be detected using an ion-selective electrode. The metal ion is soluble in water and is used as an etching agent for lithographic plates during the production of printed circuit boards. Disodium hexafluorotitanate also has photocatalytic activity due to its ability to absorb ultraviolet light.
