[(Difluoromethyl)thio]benzene is a synthetic nucleophile that is soluble in organic solvents. It reacts with cyclic hydrocarbons to form fluorine compounds. [(Difluoromethyl)thio]benzene can be used as an environmentally friendly solvent for the synthesis of cycloaliphatic compounds, such as dioxane and tetrahydrofuran. It has also been used in phytosanitary applications, due to its ability to react with sulfoxides and hydroxides to form trifluoride, which is a potent insecticide. The stereoselective properties of [(Difluoromethyl)thio]benzene allow it to be used in asymmetric synthesis reactions by providing optically pure products.
