Product Information

Name:
α-(Difluoromethyl)Arginine
Description:

Alpha-(Difluoromethyl)arginine is a synthetic amino acid that is used to treat a number of diseases. It is an inhibitor of the enzyme arginase, which converts the amino acid arginine into urea and ornithine. Ornithine is essential for polyamine synthesis and uptake. Alpha-(Difluoromethyl)arginine has been shown to inhibit the uptake of viruses such as HIV and herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). It also inhibits the growth of bacteria, including Clostridium perfringens and Vibrio vulgare L., while maintaining normal bacterial flora in the intestines. Alpha-(Difluoromethyl)arginine has been shown to have no effect on the uptake system for cellular proteins.
