Description:

3-Deoxy-3-Fluoro-D-Gluconic Acid is a metabolite in the biosynthesis of 3-deoxy-3-fluoro--d--glucose. It is localized in tissues such as cerebral cortex, kidney cortex, and cecropia. 3DG is found at high concentrations in the hemolymph of cecropia larvae. It has been shown to produce significant effects on the magnetic susceptibility of water and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. The enzyme responsible for its synthesis is glucose dehydrogenase and it can be found in anaerobic bacteria that use 3-deoxy-3-fluoro--d--glucose as their sole carbon source. This compound also inhibits the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans, which are aerobic bacteria.
