Description:

2,2-Dichloro-1,1,3,3-Tetrafluoropropane (DCTF) is a fluorinated ether that is used in laboratories as an anaesthetic or gas. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of respiration in animals and is also used to produce nitrous oxide. DCTF inhibits the enzyme cytochrome oxidase by binding to its heme group and prevents the formation of oxygen from hydrogen. DCTF is not metabolized by the body and has a half-life of about 40 minutes.
