c5A (His-tag) from mouse is a mitochondrial membrane potential inhibitor that binds to the c5A subunit of the cytosolic ATP synthase complex. This protein is a major component of the mitochondrial F1F0-ATP synthase and regulates cellular ATP production by catalyzing the synthesis of ATP from ADP and phosphate. The c5A subunit has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on pandemic influenza virus replication in vitro, with an IC50 value of 2.3 μM. The c5A subunit also has anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting IL-10 gene transcription in renal cells.
