Grossamide is a synthetic toll-like receptor (TLR) agonist that activates the immune system. It is used in nutrient solutions to stimulate plant growth. Grossamide has been shown to inhibit acetylcholinesterase, which is an enzyme that breaks down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and can be used as a potential treatment for Alzheimer's disease. Grossamide has also been shown to have anti-cancer properties, including inhibiting prostate cancer cell growth and increasing tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α).
