Its detection in human urine has been shown to be indicative of poor nutritional status, metabolic disorders, or liver damage. 2-Acetamidooctanoic acid is also a metabolite of amino acids such as lysine, arginine, histidine, and tryptophan. 2-Acetamidooctanoic acid has also been used for sequencing purposes to identify homologues in humans and other organisms.
