Flosulide is a novel, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that has been shown to have inhibitory properties in vitro. Flosulide is a prodrug that is converted into the active form flosulide hydrochloride in vivo. The binding of flosulide to its receptor cb2 prevents the production of arachidonic acid, which would otherwise be metabolized into inflammatory prostaglandins (e.g., thromboxane). Flosulide also inhibits the production of epidermal growth factor (EGF) and glomerular filtration rate (GFR). This drug has long-term efficacy and can be used for treatment of metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus.
