3,4-Epoxy-1-butene is a reactive epoxide that is used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. 3,4-Epoxy-1-butene has been shown to have genotoxic effects in vitro and in vivo. It can also react with DNA bases to form adducts. 3,4-Epoxy-1-butene is stable under normal conditions but reacts with water vapor to form hydroperoxides. The reaction mechanism for this process is not well understood, but it may involve hydrogen abstraction from the C=O bond followed by a radical addition reaction on the aromatic ring of the epoxide. 3,4 Epoxy 1 Butene has been found to have pharmacokinetic properties that are similar to butadiene.
