Description:Escitalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that is used for the treatment of major depressive disorder. Escitalopram binds to the serotonin transporter protein, which inhibits the reuptake of serotonin from the synaptic cleft and increases its concentration in the synaptic cleft. Escitalopram has been shown to be effective in treating depression and anxiety disorders.
