Enrofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. This drug also has antimicrobial activity against gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus, and gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli. Enrofloxacin has been shown to be active in the presence of fatty acids and hydrochloric acid. The detection sensitivity of this drug can be increased by anhydrous sodium or sodium citrate. Enrofloxacin is often used for the treatment of infectious diseases caused by gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus, and gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli.
