Product Information
Ethyl 2-cyanobenzoate is a reagent for the allylation of aldehydes and ketones. It is prepared from benzaldehyde in the presence of dimethyl carbonate, followed by the addition of chlorine. The synthetic route can be divided into two pathways: one where the imine is formed first and then treated with hydrogen chloride to give an aliphatic compound, and another where ethyl acetoacetate reacts with allylchloride to form an aliphatic compound. Ethyl 2-cyanobenzoate has been used industrially as a solvent for nitrocellulose paints, cellulose acetate butyrate, cellulose nitrate, and cellulose ethers.
