Ethoxysulfuron is an herbicide that inhibits the activity of acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase, which is involved in the synthesis of fatty acids and other important compounds. It also inhibits a number of other enzymes, such as phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase, pyruvate kinase, and glutamine synthetase. Ethoxysulfuron has been shown to be effective against many species of weeds, but resistant mutants can arise. This chemical has been shown to have no effects on bacteria or fungi. The analytical method used for this product has been validated by chromatographic comparison with a type strain and sample preparation by enzyme inhibitors. The dry weight of plants treated with ethoxysulfuron was increased by conditioning agents and control agents were used in the effective dose range.
