- 4-Ethyl-1-cyclohexanone
4-Ethylcyclohexanone is a chemical that has been shown to have carcinogenic properties. It can be synthesized by the biotransformation of 4-ethylcyclohexanol and has been shown to induce cancer in rodents. This compound is converted by dehydrogenase enzymes into 4-ethylcyclohexanol, which is then biotransformed into 4-ethylcyclohexanone, which has been shown to cause tumours in rodents. The stereoselective synthesis of this compound occurs with an ethyl group on the cyclohexane ring at the para position and a methyl group at the alpha position. The vibrational spectra of this compound are also unique, with a dipole moment of 1.67 D and a frequency of 3677 cm-1. In addition, it is known to be a convulsant at high doses and can cause seizures in humans.END>
