Description:

Ethyl 4-chloro-2-methylthio-5-pyrimidinecarboxylate is a potent inhibitor of tyrosine kinases. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. This drug has also been shown to be effective against various types of human cancer cell lines, such as human leukemia cells and myeloma cells. Ethyl 4-chloro-2-methylthio-5-pyrimidinecarboxylate inhibits the production of proteins vital for cell division by binding to tyrosine kinase. This binding prevents the formation of an enzyme complex with other enzymes that are required for protein synthesis, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. The compound has also been shown to be a highly selective inhibitor of amines, which may contribute to its pharmacological effects.
