Eticlopride hydrochloride is an antagonist of dopamine receptors, which are located in the central nervous system. It has been shown to inhibit locomotor activity in rats and to have a selective action on the dopamine receptor. Eticlopride hydrochloride inhibits the binding of dopamine at its site on the receptor and prevents it from stimulating downstream pathways that lead to increased locomotor activity. Eticlopride hydrochloride also inhibits metabolic rate and hippocampal formation in rats, which may be due to its inhibition of G protein-coupled receptors. The effects of eticlopride hydrochloride are reversed by pueraria lobata extract.
