It is used in the synthesis of oxime derivatives, which are bioactive molecules that have a wide range of applications in the field of medicine, including as intermediates for anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and antibacterial drugs. This compound has shown to be active against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The mechanism by which this molecule inhibits MRSA involves its nitro group and the release of nitric oxide.
