Etridiazole is a fungicide that has an inhibitory effect on a variety of fungi, including dimorphic fungi. It is used to control the growth of fungi on agricultural products, such as wheat and oats. Etridiazole inhibits the biosynthesis of ergosterol in fungal cells by inhibiting the enzyme squalene epoxidase, which is involved in the conversion of squalene to lanosterol. This compound also inhibits the growth of some bacteria, such as staphylococci and streptococci. Etridiazole has been shown to be toxic to galleria mellonella larvae.
