Endo-2,3-norbornanedicarboximide (ENBDC) is a dopamine receptor antagonist that has been shown to have atypical antipsychotic activity. ENBDC binds to the serotonin 5-HT2A receptor, which inhibits neurotransmission and induces dopamine release. It also inhibits the dopamine D2 receptor, which may lead to its therapeutic effect. The hydroxyl group on the molecule interacts with the drug's binding site, enhancing its affinity for this region of the receptor. Fluoro groups are found on both ends of ENBDC and are responsible for its high lipophilicity, allowing it to cross the blood brain barrier and act as an antagonist in the central nervous system.
