Product Information
- (+)-Ethyl 2-hydroxypropanoate(R)-(+)-2-Hydroxypropionic acid ethyl ester(R)-(+)-Lactic acid ethyl ester(+)-Ethyl 2-hydroxypropion ate
Ethyl D-lactate is a synthetic compound that is used for the synthesis of lactates and other esters. It can be synthesized from ethyl alcohol and lactic acid by titration calorimetry. Ethyl D-lactate has been shown to have a helical structure, which is different from the linear form of L-lactate. This difference has been modeled mathematically and confirmed by small-angle x-ray diffraction studies. Ethyl D-lactate has been shown to inhibit the virulence factor lipase in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an important pathogen in cystic fibrosis patients. The drug can also be used as a vaporiser for the treatment of bacterial infections such as P. aeruginosa infections in cystic fibrosis patients, which can cause high blood pressure when left untreated.
