5-Ethyl-2-picoline (5EP) is an organic compound that belongs to the group of pyridines. It is a reaction product of ethyl decanoate, which is produced from the reaction of phosphorus pentachloride with a mixture of chloroethane and ethanol. 5EP has a molecular weight of 118.17 g/mol and an acidic character. The reactivity of 5EP can be characterized by its coordination geometry and kinetics. When it reacts with water vapor, it produces ethyl decanoate and acetaldehyde. 5EP is used as an anti-tuberculosis drug in pharmaceutical dosages for the treatment of tuberculosis, particularly in combination therapy.
